Renuka Somers is the Principal and founder of Somers Tax Law, PLLC, New York. Renuka assists individuals, privately held businesses, and their advisers, find tax-effective solutions when resolving complex issues involving:
- U.S.-Australian cross-border tax, trusts, structuring, and estate planning
- U.S. domestic tax planning
- U.S. international tax disclosure
- IRS tax remediation
Prior to relocating to the United States. Renuka worked in large law firms and international accounting firms in Australia for many years, gaining extensive experience as a trusted advisor to private clients and family businesses. In the U.S. she headed the U.S.-Australian tax practice for a Family Office advisory firm and was an attorney in the Tax Controversy and Estate Planning divisions at a law firm in the Washington D.C. area.
Renuka has written extensively on U.S. and Australian domestic and cross-border tax, trusts, structuring, and estate planning matters. She has been published in the American Bar Association’s Tax Times, and The Tax Institute’s Taxation in Australia, and Tax Specialist journals. She has also presented on these topics for The Tax Institute, and the Leo Cussen Institute, in Australia, and the AICPA in the United States.
Renuka has served on the Board of Directors of a health promotion charity in Australia and has acted as a pro bono advisor to the Boards of several nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and in Australia.
Renuka is admitted to practice law in New York and in Australia (Victoria, and all Australian Federal Courts).
